And the day we’ve all been waiting for, the arrival of the adult children! Picking up at the Miami airport at various times: Elizabeth, Ryan, Gillian, Audrey, and Mackenzie! Loaded up in the cars, including a rental, and headed to our Islamorada Airbnb, base camp for the next week.
As noted, it was Father’s Day, so the kiddos had made dinner reservations at a nearby restaurant. Quite frankly, it didn’t matter how the food or drinks were, being together is the best gift. However, true to form, we were able to locate some fun sites right at the pier by the restaurant. First—for a small fee—you can walk out and see tarpon. These are actually quite large. Perhaps huge. Some people try and feed them or dangle their appendages over the edge. This seems… stupid. We did not do that. We also had fun (again safely!) with a pelican on the pier that was quite interested in our party. Sadly in the pelican’s opinion, we did not have food to share with it. Pelicans, too, are also quite large when you are right next to them. There was also a brief few minutes of excitement as some folks fishing caught a little shark. Happily they did let him go.
We ended the day enjoying the view from the back of our temporary home, some wine, and some water. Love it!
