We found the fountain of youth

Time to investigate St. Augustine. “Founded in 1565 by Spanish settlers, it is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in what is now the contiguous United States.” I must say I would like to come back here for another day or two. It’s a lovely area, and I could do some more exploring.  Greg and I still had to drive to our next stop this afternoon, so we opted for just two quick-ish sites in the morning. First, Old Senator, a live oak tree estimated to be about 650 years old. To quote a st. Augustine website, “That would pre-date Ponce de Leon’s arrival in St. Augustine by more than a century.” The Old Senator has a 150 foot spread. This is one beautiful tree. Yes, it’s in a motel courtyard.

Next we had to visit The Foutain of Youth. This is a fun stop with cannon and musket displays, craftsmen, and shows. You can (and should for the full experience) drink from the Fountain of Youth. They give you a disposable paper cup to use. Full disclosure, I thought the water tasted like dirt. Not sure I look younger.

Onward to Montgomery, Alabama!
